We have multiple programs that we use to help low income individuals that may or may not own a home yet. Below is an overview of each program, and how to get involved.
Greater Blessings
Who is Eligible:
Low-income homeowners in need of repairs that make their home warmer, safer, and drier.
Examples of Repairs:
- Hot Water Heaters
- Wheelchair Ramps
- Sealing Gaps around Windows/Doors
- Replacing Subfloors with Soft Spots
How it Works:
The first step is attending one of our family selection meetings for Greater Blessings projects. This is where you will learn about the program, how it works, and how to apply. From there, you will leave with an application. These meetings are generally held in a public meeting place that is wheelchair accessible. However, if you are not able to attend for whatever reason (work conflict, disability, etc.), you may send another person in your stead, who can then act as your representative for the meeting.
The foundation of a “Greater Blessing” is the belief that it is a greater blessing to give than receive. As a requirement of this program, you must be willing to “give back” to the organization with what we call “sweat equity.”
What is Sweat Equity?
We call volunteer hours “sweat equity,” however, that doesn’t mean you will have to get “sweaty” in order to meet this requirement. There are several examples of volunteer activities that count as sweat equity. Here are some examples below:
- Making Phone Calls
- Handing Out Flyers
- Making/Providing Food for Volunteers
- Serving on our Committees
- Helping with other Greater Blessing/Build Projects
What Happens After I Submit My Application?
Once you submit your application, the Fuller Center’s family selection committee has 30 days to review your application. This may require us to acquire quotes from skilled laborers that can give us an idea of the cost of the project. From there, we will either “accept” or “deny” your application, based on our ability to take on your project at that time.
What Happens Once I Am Selected?
Once you are selected for a Fuller Center Greater Blessings project, we will notify you within that 30 day period. From there, we will sign a contract with you for an initial estimate of what we are expecting the project to cost. Once the work is done, a final contract will be signed, and you and your Family Partnership representative will agree on a monthly repayment amount that works for you.
Benefits of the Program:
- Flexible Payments: we work with the homeowners in order to determine a monthly repayment amount that works with the homeowner’s budget.
- 0% Interest: we do not charge interest on the “balance” of the Greater Blessings “loan.”
- Pay it Forward: the payments you make to the Fuller Center allows us to reinvest funds back into the community, helping homeowners just like you!
