Warmer, Safer, Drier
Fuller Center of JoCoMo has been working behind the scenes to evaluate our work and plan for future projects since we completed our build this past spring.
This month, we are ready to go back to work in a whole new way for our organization!
Unlike Habitat for Humanity (who only builds new homes), Fuller Center affiliates, like ours, are encouraged to consider doing repairs and rehabilitation for homeowners in need.
We have identified two Johnson County families whose financial circumstances barely cover their needs for food and medicine and whose homes need significant maintenance to be warmer, safer, and drier.
Our first project is for “Family C” in a rural area west of Warrensburg. It is owned by a widow whose husband was ill with cancer before his death in February. Due to their medical expenses, maintenance on her home has been deferred. In addition to grief, she is also seriously ill herself. She is being cared for by her adult granddaughter who lives with her along with the granddaughter’s two children, ages 6 and 2. The extended family has no working vehicle and resources are slim.
As we try to put ourselves in their place, we can only imagine the feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and defeat! Winter is coming and daylight is diminishing. Therefore, there is a sense of urgency to get a roof, a window, and a door replaced so their home will be warmer, safer, and drier.
Will you help us bring some relief to this family?
Our plan is to begin these much-needed repairs this month! Would you be able to help us on Saturday, Oct. 24 and/or Sunday, Oct. 25? It is possible that we will need finish the repairs on following weekend.
Although we desperately need workers to apply shingles, wield hammers and climb ladders, we also need help in the following ways.
- Prayer warriors. Surround us with a circle of loving prayers as we venture into this new endeavor. Please ask your church to add us to the congregation’s prayer list.
- Food sponsors. Provide a beverages, lunch and/or snacks for the work crew both Saturday and Sunday.
- Financial donors. We can also make excellent use of financial donations — the needs for this family are overwhelming. Sadly, we know there are other families within JoCoMo in similar situations that could use our help too if we have the money to make repairs to keep their homes warmer, safer, dryer.
If you are willing to help in some way, please call us at 660-429-2763 or email us at fullercenterjocomo@fullercenter.org
Any help you can give us would be GREATLY appreciated.
