Katy Barrett

Katy Barrett recently became our newest Fuller Center board member! And we are delighted she did!

Katie was born and raised in Queens NYC and joined the Air Force in 1971, retiring as a Lt Colonel after serving in the Air Force for 33 years. But she wasn’t ready to put up her feet yet!

As a second career, she served as a Sheriff’s deputy for JoCoMo for 8-1/2 years. She still wasn’t finished.

Somehow, she found the time during all of that to earn an MA in English from CMSU.

She is proud to say for her a “retirement job”, she worked for Dr. Means at Alpine Pet Clinic for 6+ years.

She is currently serving her 9th year on the Holden Board of Public Works, much of this time as Chairman of the Board.

Still not ready to just sit back and relax, she has just begun taking lessons to read music and play the cornet.

One of her biggest joys, however, is being happily married to her husband Ron Barrett.

Did we mention that she and Ron purchased a vacant “problem” piece of property in Holden, MO for back taxes in 2013 and they have been working on it ever since. The couple makes it a point to use local craftsmen and their own sweat equity. What started out as Katy’s “Senior Project,” and has become her “she-shed” and is where everyone in the family wants to celebrate birthdays and holidays.

She claims to be pushing 70 (although we would never have guessed that) and is grateful for every day The Lord grants her. She is a faithful member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Christian Church in KC.

What a fascinating person who we are so pleased to have on the Fuller Center board!
