Welcome to the first e-newsletter for the Fuller Center for Housing of Johnson County, Missouri! You are receiving this letter because at some point you expressed an interest in learning more about us. Thank you! Officially, we work throughout all of Johnson County, Missouri, but our goal is to light a fire that grows way beyond our county. However, all fires start with a spark.
Our current spark is our latest partner Ms. Rachel Henderson and her adorable daughter Stella. But I am getting ahead of myself. Let’s answer some of your questions.
Who are we? We are volunteers. Organized originally as Habitat for Humanity of JoCo in 2001, we joined Fuller Center in 2017 to better serve our more rural community. Named after Millard Fuller, the founder of Habitat, the mission of the Fuller Center is the same: to work alongside persons in need to provide them with simple, decent housing.
How do we do this? The Fuller Center for Housing partners with qualifying families by helping them build affordable homes. Once homes are complete, the families purchase them with no-interest 20-year mortgages. We are not a charity – we offer a hand up, not a hand out. Families have all the same responsibilities of home ownership as their neighbors; we just help them overcome some obstacles to get started.
Can you be a part of this? YES! We will post regular updates about our current project at 718 Shotwell in Warrensburg. You can jump in at any point and serve in whatever capacity you are comfortable. Our Facebook page is updated regularly and we welcome you to follow us there at www.facebook.com/fullercenter.org. If you have questions today, we would love an opportunity to answer them. Our website at www.fullercenterjocomo.org just may have the answers you need. Alternatively, you can contact us directly by email at fullercenterjocomo@fullercenter.org or by phone at 660-429-2763.
There is something very exciting and meaningful about people from various walks of life, with assorted skill sets, in diverse generations and at different places in their spiritual journey all demonstrating that love is a verb as they build a home together. Millard and Linda Fuller founded The Fuller Center of Housing with the express hope that “they will know we are Christians by our love.”
